Moving to a new city is always a significant transition, but for Scott Browning and his family, their arrival in Houston coincided with a powerful storm that left them without power in their new home. Scott, who recently assumed a leadership role at LSA following Pastor Steve's tenure, found himself navigating both personal and professional challenges amidst the chaos.

But when he and his family took refuge at Gloria Dei’s cooling center, this gave them much needed respite from the heat and a place where Scott could connect with his new community.

With temperatures soaring and their residence darkened by the outage, Scott made the decision to seek refuge at our church's cooling center. "It was a relief to find a place where my family could cool down and regroup," Scott shared. "Especially with two young children, maintaining a sense of normalcy and comfort during this time was crucial." The cooling center not only provided respite from the oppressive heat but also offered a space where Scott could connect with his new community. "Coming here allowed us to meet others who were going through similar experiences," he said. "We found comfort in knowing we weren't alone in facing these challenges."

For Scott, the cooling center became more than just a place to escape the heat— it became a symbol of solidarity and support from his new church family. "This experience has reinforced our decision to move here and serve this community. It's inspiring to witness the compassion and resilience that define this church."

As Scott and his family continue to settle into their new home and roles within the community, their journey serves as a testament to the strength found in faith and fellowship during times of adversity. Through their presence at the cooling center, they have not only found relief but also a deeper connection to the spirit of compassion that defines our church's mission.

In the weeks and months ahead, as we rebuild and recover from the storm's impact, stories like Scott's remind us of the power of community and the unwavering support we can find in one another.
